The 10 Best Halloween Movies

With Halloween quickly approaching, it is time to gather your friends and hunker down for a Halloween movie marathon.  There is a huge variety of movies to choose from ranging from family-friend flicks to scream evoking horror movies.

Halloweentown (1998)

Rating: G

This family comedy tells the story of a girl who, after learning she is a witch, helps to save a town full of other supernatural creatures.  It is a great movie for the whole family to enjoy.

Beetlejuice (1988)

Rating: PG

Beetlejuice, staring Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, is about a deceased couple who is not happy about the family moving into their old house.  They try to scare them out, but to no avail.  That’s when they call on Beetlejuice to help them.

Hocus Pocus (1993)

Rating: PG

This is the perfect movie to watch if scary movies and Halloween aren’t for you.  This family friendly movie stars three people and an immortal cat who are trying to stop three witch sisters reign of terror.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Rating: PG

In this animated movie, Jack Skellington is the king of Halloween Town.  He becomes bored with the monotony of Halloween and tries to get the ghoul and goblin residents of Halloweentown to help him put on Christmas in lieu of Halloween.

Corpse Bride (2005)

Rating: PG

Corpse Bride is an animated movie with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter as the voices of the two main characters.  It is about a shy groom who accidently marries a deceased woman when he practices his vows in a graveyard.

The Addams Family (1991)

Rating: PG-13

This movie, starring Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, and Christopher Lloyd is a well-known favorite.  It is about con artists who use an imposter to try and gain access to the Addams family’s riches.

Frankenstein (1931)

Not Rated

A mad scientist assembles a living being from parts of corpses and creates Frankenstein, played by Colin Clive.  This old movie is a classic movie to watch on Halloween.

Halloween (1978)

Rating: R

If scary movies are your thing, then this movie is for you.  It stars Donald Pleasence as Michael Myers, an escaped mental hospital patient who is returning to a small town to kill.

 Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Rating: R

This movie is a well-known classic starring Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane, a man sent to Sleepy Hollow with the mission of investigating the decapitations of three people.  The town is plagued by the legacy of the headless horseman.

Trick ‘r Treat (2007)

Rated: R

This horror movie tells the tale of five interwoven stories at occur on Halloween.  The stories occur on the same night, on the same block.  The stars of the movie include Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, and Dylan Baker.
