Celebrate Pittsburgh’s 200th Birthday
Happy Birthday Pittsburgh!
The year 2016 marks the 200th year of Pittsburgh’s incorporation as a city. A big birthday, indeed, calls for an even bigger celebration. Grab your friends and get ready for a weekend full of memories.
Bicentennial Birthday Bash – tickets $40, Heinz History Center
Kick off the festivities this Friday, July 8, 2016 at the Heinz History Center’s Bicentennial Birthday Bash. Enjoy live music, a cash bar, catered food from Common Plea Catering, and exhibits dedicated to the one and only Steel City.
Bicentennial Day Parade – FREE, Liberty Ave. 11th Street to Point State Park
Saturday morning, July 9, we’ll be celebrating the anniversary of the swearing in of Ebenezer Denny, the first mayor of Pittsburgh. Ebenezer Denny, not to be confused with the homonymous focal character in A Christmas Carol, and descendants of many Pittsburgh mayors will walk in the celebratory parade. The parade will culminate with a Bicentennial Showcase in Market Square.
Anniversary Celebration – FREE, Point State Park
Following the parade, there will be a festival with live music at Point State Park. It wouldn’t be a true Pittsburgh party without fireworks, which will commence once the sun goes down.
