It’s no secret that Pittsburgh encompasses some of most city-proud individuals, who show their dedication to black & gold in a multitude of ways, ranging from sports logo tattoos, Penguins and Steelers parades, and neighborhood events open to all city-dwellers. This pride extends even further to local restaurants and breweries, many of which make appearances at events, including Imbibe North Side and the Market Square Farmers Market. With the popularity of artisan food and craft beer skyrocketing, it’s not surprising that Pittsburgh is adamantly keeping up with the trend! There are many local breweries based in the city that brew delicious beers all while sporting black & gold pride. Below you can find a list of some of the city’s most popular breweries, with information and a link to each of their websites.
War Streets Brewery
As their website states, “each of our beer recipes uses only the finest hops, barley, and other ingredients to combine for an exceptional tasting brew.” War Streets Brewery advertises themselves as having a “beer for every street,” and is opening soon. A list of their beers can be found here: http://www.warstreetsbrewery.com/beers.html.
East End Brewery
This Pittsburgh-based company started in 2004 brews fresh, local beer, and distributes kegs, cans, and a few large bottles throughout Western PA. With two locations that both offer pints, tastings, big bottles, Crowlers, and Growlers to go, this might be the place for you if you enjoy beer in large quantities and special beer-themed events! Find a list of their beers here: http://www.eastendbrewing.com/beers/.
A little older than the two listed above, Penn Brewery began their beer escapade in 1986, starting with German beer styles and recently expanding to IPAs and other contemporary favorites. All beers are hand brewed, and they host special beer-tasting events that are sure to make your taste buds feel good! If you want to know more, check out their website at www.pennbrew.com.
Pittsburgh Brewing Company
What could be more “Pittsburgh” than a company named after the city itself? Established in 1861, Pittsburgh Brewing Company is deeply committed to the Pittsburgh community, strong traditions, and tasteful craft beer. They’re on a mission to make Pittsburgh proud of its hometown brewery, and are constantly working to perfect their beers. Allegheny City Brewing Co.
Located in the historic Deutschtown neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Allegheny City Brewing is the result of three beer-lovers who worked hard and visited dozens of breweries to create their own small craft brewery. After gaining inspiration and perfecting their craft, they returned to Pittsburgh in 2013 and officially opened Allegheny City Brewing in 2016. Hop Farm Brewing Co.
Gaining inspiration from his home-grown hops, Hop Farm Brewing Co. “brewmaster” and co-owner practiced home brewing for a decade before enrolling in the American Brewers Guild program. Both hobbies of growing hops and making beer came together and Hop Farm Brewing Co. opened its doors in 2013 in Lawrenceville. To learn more, visit http://hopfarmbrewingco.com/about.htm.
